ORBITAL
About this piece…
This piece was an unprecedented experiment in texture and layer with cold wax. Using bits of rusty screen found along the roadside in Valenciana, Mexico, where I was living in residency for 3 months, produced a texture that seemed to seduce me. I’d never been seduced by repetitive application of paint in quite the same way before. I spent hours upon hours, just overlaying and re-applying color. It was methodical and satisfying. I became absorbed in surprising way and began to witness the subtle transformation of color and layer that I’d been seeking. This piece went through a LOT of UGLIES. And I know that this style doesn’t do it for everyone, (perhaps very few indeed). But I love this shit. I love the thick, rich viscerality of it. I love the emerging voices of the underlying layers. As I contemplated upon its completion, I felt and saw the continual, perpetual, eternal and inevitable rotation of atoms, molecules, particles, beings: from heaven to earth and back again. The micro-macro cosmic orbital of existence.
